BACKGROUND
Born on the West Coast and raised on the East Coast, I have called Salem my home since 1999. After graduation from Salem State and being a renter in the city for 8 years, a first-time home buyers assistance program led me to my home in North Salem.
I work as a Director of Sales Operations for a property information company. My daughter Stella was born in 2011 and currently attends Salem Public Schools.
With a history of volunteerism locally and in Boston, I currently serve on the Board of Rebuilding Together – Boston, a local non-profit that renovates houses of people unable to pay for essential home repairs and much-needed updates.
COUNCIL WORK
I was first elected in 2019 (you may remember that one-vote victory) and currently have the privilege of serving as the 2023 Council President. This is an honor to have been chosen by my fellow councilors to lead during this year of transition for the city.
During my third year on Council, I chaired the Ordinances, Licenses, and Legal Affairs Committee, where we took up many critical matters – including the Bridge St Neck Overlay District, The Halloween Parking Overlay, and the Municipal Green Building Ordinance. I am proud of the enormous amount of work we were able to accomplish in just one year and the respectful and productive conversations that occurred in committee.
In my second year on council, I served as the Chair of the Public Health, Safety, and Environment Committee, where I had taken up important items such as Policing in Salem, ADA Compliance, and Urban Agriculture.
I am also a member of the Administrative & Finance Committee and was a previous member of the Community & Economic Development Committee. I have had the pleasure to serve as the council liaison for the Commission on Disabilities, The Board of Health and the Sustainability, Energy and Resiliency Commission.
During my first year on Council, COVID began just three months in and priorities shifted from normal course of business to the basics of keeping residents safe and informed. My email newsletters became a critical way to distribute information to many. Since then I have distributed close to 100 email newsletters – you can read them here. I also hosted virtual neighborhood meetings, as well as organized on-site gatherings when safe to do so.
In June of 2020, I was appointed to the Race Equity Task Force, and served as the co-chair of its Healthcare Subcommittee. You can read the Task Force Report here.
It was amazing to have a front row seat to the pivoting, zooming, and sheer determination of the city, and I would be honored to continue the work.
